August (Richard, "Dick") Smith passed away January 1, 2024 in the early morning hours in Emmett, Idaho at the age of 81. He was born August 7, 1942 at the Mary Secor Hospital in Emmett, Idaho to Pearl (Willey) and Floyd E. Smith.
Dick grew up in and attended Emmett schools. He signed up for military service which resulted in him passing high school equivalency exams later on. In 1987 he married Carol R. Thomas. The newlyweds lived in San Diego and within the 1st year moved to Emmett, Idaho.
In life, Dick enjoyed reading, fishing, and counselling those who suffered from addictions. He will be remembered for his generous nature, his smile, easy laugh and his cooking abilities.
Dick is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Edith (Lee) Witt; brothers, Clark, Fred and Harry G. Smith. He is survived by his wife, Carol (Robinson) Thomas; nephew, Forrest Witt and Forrest's two sons, Ian and Joseph; numerous sisters-in-law and brothers of the Robinson Family; niece, Terry A. Paulus.
Memorial Services for Dick will be at St. Mary's Episcopal Church at 219 E. 1st St. in Emmett on Friday, January 26, 2024 at 4:00 PM.
