Ann Foy Obituary

Bettie Ann Smith Herring Foy, 83, of Riggins, ID passed away July 22, 2022.  Ann was born April 23, 1939 to Thomas Jay (T.J.) Smith and Bettie Jane (Rogers) Smith in Pecos, Texas.

Ann grew up in Pecos, Texas and Midland, Texas.  In her childhood, she lived next door to future U.S. President George W. Bush, whom she frequently babysat.  She was widely traveled, and lived overseas with her first husband, Ed Herring, for over 15 years in countries including Libya, Egypt, Singapore, Borneo and Jakarta.  She worked at the Cairo American School in Egypt.  She found creative ways to earn money to send her children through school, and during her time overseas, her life overlapped with many historic events.

Ann possessed a deep Christian faith and was a lifelong member of the Catholic Church.  She was a founding member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Lubbock, Texas.  She, with her current husband, Jimmy Foy, operated the Family Tree Nursery and Seven Oaks Tree Farm in Lubbock until 2006 when they moved to Elkhorn Creek Ranch on the Salmon River in Idaho.  While in Lubbock, Ann and Jimmy sponsored over 150 student pilots at Reese Air Force Base over a period of 10 years.  Ann also volunteered for Lubbock Meals on Wheels where she served on the Board of Directors and as a driver delivering meals.  In her final days, Ann was lovingly cared for by her husband and by the Cottages at Emmett, Idaho.

Ann was a friend to all she met and could put anyone at ease.  She loved entertaining and helping others.  She gave of herself in a multitude of ways, and whenever there was a problem to be solved, she was the first to help.  She was loved by all who knew her and counts as friends people from all over the world and in all walks of life.

Ann was preceded in death by her first husband, her parents, and by her sister, Nancy Jay Stevens of Silver City, New Mexico.  She is survived by her husband, Jimmy Foy; children, Russ (Mary) Herring, Megan (Jeffrey) Cropper, and Amber (Shane) Maloy; stepdaughter, Gena (Joseph) Cornett; eight grandchildren and 5 step-grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, July 28, 2022, at the Elkhorn Creek Ranch.

In lieu of flowers, charitable donations may be offered to Meals on Wheels or the Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Lubbock, Texas.
