Allen Dewayne Thompson passed away May 27, 2026, at his home in Emmett, Idaho.
Allen was born in Bakersfield California on April 4, 1939 to Birl and Bonnie Thompson. He joined his sisters, Pat, Betty and brother Dale. Dad would later be joined by brother Larry and sister Deanna. Dad helped on the family farm in Porterville, California, milking cows and later picking cotton. He graduated from Porterville high school, and in 1957 he joined the Army Reserves (now known as The National Guard) and completed his training as a Cannoneer (140.00) at Fort Chaffee, Arkansas. He would go on to serve 6 years.
Allen had one daughter, Kimberly, in his first marriage. He would then remarry and had a son Brian. In 1971 Dad was introduced to our mom, Louise, a widower in Simi Valley California by her sister Ruth. He inherited 5 children, James, Paula, Douglas, Lori and Teresa. Dad was managing the orchards in Odell and Hood River, Oregon. He then moved the family there. Dad taught us hard work and perseverance. He went on to run a grade A dairy in Astoria, Oregon for his boss and we spent the summer learning how to milk cows and fix barbed wire fence. In 1972, dad would move the family to Emmett to run an orchard for his boss. When that fell through and having 5 mouths to feed, he went to the mill every day bugging them until they hired him. He worked his way up from a janitor to Lead on the finishing end at the beam plant. After 28 years working for Boise Cascade and amongst many changes there, he took early retirement. Dad was very active in the Union, becoming a Union Steward. Retirement was not meant to be, as dad would tell it, mom told him she was tired of looking at his face and "go find something to do." Dad went to work with longtime friend Billy Brown for Securitas, at the Hewlett Packard data center, EDS. He became head of security there. Later in life, dad and mom took on the role of parents again, adopting a granddaughter, Sylvia. They later took on the role of foster parents, taking in two grandsons, William and Joshua Newell.
Dad and mom were mom and dad or Aunt and Uncle to many of their children's friends. They opened their home to many friends, children's friends and grandchildren, letting them live there. They were close to all their grandchildren. Dad loved to attend family functions and spend time with his family. He took grandsons fishing and camping. He really enjoyed buying matching Easter dresses for Sylvia and granddaughter Tiffany. Later, he would buy dresses for his great granddaughters Taylor and Olivia. Dad was a shopper and always found the cutest clothes for grandchildren's birthdays. Dad and mom joined the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Emmett and dad was active for over 30 years. Dad was active in many organizations. He was on the board for Wicap and helped with the food pantry until his illness. Dad was awarded many awards for his service with Securitas and Wicap.
Dad was preceded in death by his parents, Birl and Bonnie; daughter, Kimberely; brothers, Dale, Larry; sister, Deanna; grandson, Benjamin; great-granddaughter, Anderson; and daughter in-law Kristy. He is survived by children, Jim, Paula, Doug (Yvonne), Lori (John), Teresa and Sylvia (Buck); grandchildren, Cory (Tina), Chris, Nick, Tiffany (Clint), Jeffrey and Roger; great grandchildren, Austin, Benny, Ellie, Anderson, Taylor (Ben), Olivia, Landry and Monroe; great great grandchildren; William, Joshua, Cyrus, Liam, Brian and Todd. Dad is also survived by many other extended family, including his church family. Dad, you will forever be in our hearts and missed greatly. We love you. Go be with mom and your family. The family would like to thank First Choice hospice for taking care of our dad, especially Phyllis, Brian, Allison and Chaplain Greg.
There will be a funeral service Wednesday, June 3, 2026, at the Seventh Day Adventist Church located at 400 Idaho 52 in Emmett, Idaho at 1:00 PM with burial at the Emmett Cemetery.
