Evelyn Holbrook Obituary

Evelyn Holbrook, 91, passed away peacefully at home on October 13, 2019 surrounded by her family. Evelyn was born on February 27, 1928 to George and Ellen Kesgard in Emmett, Idaho. She attended schools in Emmett and graduated from Emmett High School in 1945. After high school, she worked for the telephone company as a switchboard operator, and later in life as an office manager for the Rex Lanham Construction Company.

Evelyn married Marvin Joe Holbrook on March 15, 1947. They made their home in Emmett, where they were blessed with four sons. Evelyn was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, and her family was her life. She truly enjoyed cooking for her family, especially while camping along Boulder Creek or at deer camp. She enjoyed serving generous warm breakfasts following the early morning hunts or salmon fishing trips, and always had a warm meal ready for those returning from the evening hunt. No one ever walked away from her table hungry! Her grandkids will tell you she always had a cookie jar full of chocolate chip cookies for everyone she welcomed into her home, and refills for the cookie jar were always ready in the freezer.

Evelyn was an avid bowler. She bowled for many, many years on various leagues and had only recently been unable to bowl due to her health. She loved spending time with her family, and a favorite place was along Boulder Creek where a favorite pastime for her was playing pinochle. She also enjoyed occasional trips to Jackpot, Nevada.

Evelyn is survived by her sons and their families, Steve and his daughters, Melissa Holbrook and Keri (Michael) Welch and children Makayla and McKenna Welch; Dale and Chris and their son, Joe Holbrook of Laramie, WY and their daughter Nicole (Andrew) Gibbs of Imbler, OR; Kevin and Sandy and daughter Jennifer (Cody) Weichers and children Dean and Joey Weichers; Brian and Jennifer of McCall and daughters Samantha of Boise, Lauren, Emilee and Haylee of McCall, and Maysun of San Antonio, TX. Evelyn also leaves behind her constant companion over the past ten years, her faithful dog, Koda.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin; parents, George and Ellen Kesgard; and special daughter-in-law and pinochle partner, Patti.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 26, 2019 at the Potter Funeral Chapel.
