Dorothy Niccolls Obituary

Dorothy went to heaven on June 17th, 2019.  She was born on August 11th, 1931 in Lewiston, Idaho, the third daughter of Ralph and Marjory Haynes.  She moved to Emmett with her family when she was a year old. She graduated from Emmett High School in 1950.  Dorothy worked as a telephone operator in Emmett for 4 years. In 1954 she married Oliver Niccolls, a local dairy farmer.  They had three daughters, Jane in July of 1955 and Betty in July of 1957 and Colleen in November of 1962.   In the spring of 1962, they moved to Bonners Ferry, Idaho where they bought a 160-acre farm with a grade ‘A’ dairy.  The time in Bonners Ferry on the farm was the most memorable.  She enjoyed raising Jersey calves and cooking and baking for the hay crew.  It was the happiest time of her life. Due to her husband’s health, they sold the dairy farm in 1973 and moved the family back to Emmett.  Dorothy enjoyed singing her whole life.  She was the choir director at the Southern Baptist church in Bonners Ferry, ID.  In 1982, she sang in the choir at the Billy Graham Crusade in Boise.  For many years she sang and traveled with the Grace Notes through the Nampa Church of the Nazarene.  She also sang in the All Church Christmas Choir for 20 years.  In her youth and at the time of her death she was a member of the First Baptist church in Emmett.  Dorothy was a longtime member of the Nazarene church and volunteered at the Emmett Senior Center.  She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Oliver, a sister, Celia Erickson and a Great Granddaughter.  She is survived by two sisters, Virginia Yungen of Central Point, Oregon, Donna Waite of Mercer Island, Washington, daughters Jane Kelley (Larry) of Boise, Betty Barnett (Raymond) of Emmett, Colleen Niccolls of Emmett, 9 Grandchildren, 5 Great Grandchildren, sister-in-law, Elva Niccolls-Simpson, brother-in-law, Jim Erickson and numerous nieces and nephews. A very special thanks to Horizon Home Health & Hospice for all the love and care.  In lieu of flowers, donate to Emmett Senior Center or Emmett First Baptist Church. A viewing will be held on Thursday June 20th from 4:00 until 8:00 pm at the Potter Funeral Chapel.  Services will be held Friday at 10:30 am at Potter’s and burial will be at 2:30 pmat the Star Cemetery in Star.
