Mary Sturtz Obituary

Mary Louise (“Mary Lou”) Sturtz (age 90) passed away peacefully on April 22, 2024, at the Apple Valley Residence in Emmett, Idaho.
Mary Lou was born June 2, 1933, in Braintree, MA to Joseph and Josephine Brow. Mary Lou loved the opportunity to talk to anyone from Massachusetts, as she had many wonderful memories of her time there. It was a place that was forever in her heart. Her family later moved to Tampa, Florida, where she would meet her husband.
While on a double date with her best friend, Mary Lou met George Sturtz, who happened to be her friend’s date. George and Mary Lou were married on August 2, 1958. During George’s time in the U.S. Air Force, they moved from Tampa to Indiana where they welcomed their son, Stanley Joseph Sturtz.  From Indiana they moved to Texas and then back to Tampa where they lived for 31 years.
Mary Lou retired from the University of South Florida as a bookkeeper. After retirement, their only child was living in Idaho with his wife and two children, soon to have a third.  Eager to be near them, Mary Lou and George moved to Idaho and arrived just weeks before their grandson was born.
Mary Lou loved doing all types of crafts, and when younger painted beautiful landscapes. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and helping George with his woodwork projects.  Every year they would choose something to make for Christmas gifts; he would build them, and she would do the staining and painting. Many family members and friends are still using some of these treasured gifts today.
Preceding Mary Lou in death were her parents; two sisters; and husband of 54 years.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Stan and Mary Sturtz of Emmett, ID; three grandchildren, Georgia, Randi, and Jack Sturtz; and one niece and three nephews.
The family express gratitude to Apple Valley Residence for the exceptional care during the seven years she resided there, and to both Apple Valley and Hospice during the last stage of her life.
Mary Lou was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Emmett, ID.  She was very grateful for Father Oscar and the Sunday visits from Deacon Alan and his wife Cindy.
